The era of Online schooling
Ahh! The school life, where every day with utmost reluctance
kids would get out of bed and get ready to go to school early in the morning.
For kindergartners, the few initial days would be more than just reluctance. There
would be cries and howls as this was their first time stepping out in the world
outside their homes, their safe place. Once in school, they would be transported
to a totally different environment. In school they start forming new bonds,
with their classmates and their teachers. These are the days when friendships breakup
and patch-up daily. A reason as simple as, he/she did not give me his/her
pencil is serious enough to reconsider the whole relationship. Rushing to share
the lunch when recess bell rings, trying to be the teachers pet or freely
running around in the playground, these are not the things that kids born right
before Covid era will know for a very long time.
Online classes have taken away the charm of going to school.
The whole experience of school life has come down to one small screen where these
preschoolers are trying to understand the concept of learning. I am not trying
to put the blame here on the new arrangement, since it is the need of the hour.
Just like everything else, the education also needs to go Digital during this pandemic
phase.
My daughter has started her classes a week back and now I realize
how tough it is for the teachers. They are trying their level best to keep the
things interesting for the kids, trying to engage them in this virtual
interaction, hats off to them! I have seen parents who literally need to apprehend
their kids to make them sit in front of the screen during the class. For
parents, it is almost like a Going back to School program. They need to
attend the class along with the kids to ensure the kids do not miss out on
anything. It is not easy for anybody,
but we are all trying to make the best of the available option.
A few tips & tricks that might help the parents
enrolling their kids in school for the first time-
1. 1. Try to set a routine for the kids, this will
develop good habits and will ease the transition to the classes.
2. 2. Try to wake them up atleast 2-3hours before
class, so that they are up and active in the class.
3. 3. Feed them proper breakfast so that they are not
hungry during the class.
4. 4. Try to talk to them about the school, the class
the teachers, the activities that they would be doing in the class before the
class. This will build up the excitement about the class.
