My Halt Point...
Sorry it took a little longer than I
had intended and would have wanted….
There are things that need to be
reminded, which we tend to forget in our day to day rush of life. There are
times when we overlook the fact that whatever we have is more than what we even
need and still wish for even more than that. One needs to slow down and think
about the little niceties of life, because that’s what the life is all about.
One needs to enjoy and be contended in whatever one has and no matter whatever
happens for there are them who are not as lucky as you may be.
A visit to orphanage run by Jeevan
Roshni Charitable Trust acted as that halt point to me which made me slow down
and think about it. She calls it Home and not orphanage, Mrs. Roslyn who is the
founder has been managing it solely with the help of volunteers who keep
walking in and out for last 11 years. In her words a person should have both
passion and compassion to give a sustainable service and it’s the sustainable
help only that she has been looking forward to from the people who visit the
place but it was hardly ever that she received it. Since the time she has been
providing service she has been able to help more than 150 kids.
At
this moment, there are around 35kids aged between 2-15years. The youngest one,
Mahesh is just 2yrs old who was brought there when he was just born and I was
amazed to see how he responded to things like Shake hands with Akka, Say bye to Akka. Though we did not get much time to spend with
the other kids as they were on tight schedule of first 5:30-7:30pm studies and
then dinner 7:30pm onwards J
But we did get a chance to talk to them for some 10min and believe me these
kids were no less than any other kid in our homes and many would be even
smarter and sharper. There was one girl Abhirami, studying in 7th
standard, who clearly caught each of our attention for she was the one who
brought water for us to drink and was quick to respond to all our
queries..After spending some 1.5hrs there, we left the place with promises in
our hearts to be of help to Mrs Roslyn in whatever ways we can.
