Rabdi Love:)
Pre wedding anniversary celebration was not so much the reason though it became one for our late night visit to Rabdi wala(http://rabdiwala.com/). I have come across this place a dozen times on Zomato and have always been tempted by the beautiful pictures which are uploaded. How can you not be tempted by sweets if you are from up North and this is Rabdi that we are talking about!
Rabdiwala is like a sweet shop which probably was turned
into a small yet full-fledged Rajasthani Restaurant after some
expansion though the name was retained. And rabdi and rabdi combos still remain
the most popular item. People were pouring in at 11pm with their families for
post dinner dessert. We tried pavbhaji and rabdi jalebi combo. Two things that
influence my verdict about a dish- the presentation and the taste. Presentation
more so after you have seen the good version on Zomato. Presentation-wise it was
nothing close to the pics on Zomato. In the pictures fancy bowls were used with
proper garnishing, here what we got was rabdi and jalebi served in cheap disposable
bowls with hardly visible garnish of I guess some dry fruits on jalebi. So the
first impression was not so great. Taste-wise rabdi was nice though but what I liked more than rabdi was the jalebi. It was almost like the jalebis from North India, no offense to people here in Mumbai, but what
you serve as jalebi -is not how it is supposed to be. It is more like a jaundiced
version of how it is supposed to be and with no crisp like there is no life in
it. Let us just say the jalebi made up for the disappointment with the presentation. Pav bhaji had a tad more salt than required so
again not so great. I would recommend this place for the dearth of good
sweet shops in Mumbai and only for desserts.
