Parenting 101

Parenting

Parenting is hard.
People might call it a blessing, a miracle in the form of life it might be all that but it is also a lot of hard work. People did tell me that raising a child is not easy. But nobody told me why it is not easy or what is needed to handle it. So I thought may be I can share a thing or two from my parenting experience to help all the fellow parents who are already sailing or are about to hop on the same boat. Trust me this boat is most of the times sailing through rocky shores so these learnings could prove life savers;)
1. Bring down your standards, keep them as low as possible. Its easier that ways. Forget a prim and proper house, with sheets all so clean and each and everything dusted properly and all the things where they should be. If you used to cook and enjoyed it, soon you will start following "we should eat to live and not live to eat" rule.
2. The concept of vanity is too shallow for you. Also this is the time when you know how much your dear hubby love you despite that unwashed face, unwaxed arms and legs or those unkempt hair. You have heard of 2minute maggi, this will teach you lot of 2 minutes- 2 minute showering, 2 minute eating(rather gulping meals), 2minute napping and so on.
3.  Remember to keep feeding yourself nowhere you would find the amount of calories burnt while taking care of your little one but it sure does burn a lot. I know, "when would I find time to do that", keep lot of readymade (healthy) snacks and learn to just shove them down your throat.
4. Forget your planning skills, for no matter how much you plan, things are going to go awry. Do keep some unhealthy snacks ready for times like these, you will be doing lot of stress eating. But you will definitely come out as someone who enjoys uncertainty, its a big life skill!:)
5. Patience and perseverance are the two pillars of parenting. Remember "this too shall pass" and just keep going. You can apply this rule to everything, baby not eating, not sleeping, cranky all the time, anything.
6. Learn or you will with time learn to control your emotions for not all days will be same. Some day things will be as planned and you will be elated with satisfaction that now you have cracked it! Alas! The very next day same things will not be working despite all the efforts. Same applies for other emotions
6. Do not be afraid!!..of poops or vomits...those are just things, yucky but just things. Just be alert and ready...always for it can happen anytime.
Parenting is more like a course in resource management and crisis management. The world should realise and acknowledge that mothers, I am going to say mothers as they manage the most part of it, are the most efficient managers and most importantly the recruiters should realise this:)
