Why so serious? Lets laugh a bit!
6th of May 2019(first sunday of May), was observed as the World Laughter Day. Just to give some historical background, it was started by Dr. madan Kataria, who was the founder of worldwide Laughter Yoga movement, in 1998.
We have all seen Munnabhai MBBS hence everybody is aware of what laughter therapy is. It appears silly laughing out loud for no reason but have you ever tried it.
With the stress and over-employement (for the lack of a better word) in our lives we hardly ever laugh.
Science says, "Laughter decreases stress hormones and increases immune cells and infection-fighting antibodies, thus improving your resistance to disease.Laughter triggers the release of endorphins, the body's natural feel-good chemicals. Endorphins promote an overall sense of well-being and can even temporarily relieve pain."
Researchers believe, laughter has both medicinal and social benefits. Laughing regularly leads to-
1. Positive social impact, everybody loves to be around a happy person.
2. Creates a positive outlook, laughing regularly can actually do that. It helps you be happy and a happy person has a positive outlook towards life.
3. Reduces Stress hormones and any problem arising because of the stress.
4. Reduces chances of high blood pressure, cardiovascular diseases as these are most of the times due to the stress
5. Improves the quality of sleep
6. Increases the blood circulation hence you get a radiant skin
I can go on about the benefits as I found numerous. So I think it is worth giving a try!
It does not cost you anything and as we today love to evaluate everything in terms of ROI, the Return on Investment is more than 100percent.
There are programs being run all around the world for laughter therapy or laughter yoga. This is something that we all learn without anybody teaching us, every newborn knows how to laugh, a 6weeks old baby can laugh socially. So, are we forgetting how to laugh or is it not considered worth spending time on. I believe once you give a serious look at the benefits you will change your mind about it.
So what changes do you need to bring to your lifestyle so be able to benefit from it?
Stop taking yourself too seriously, you are just a small speck in this entire universe.
Next, to try and see the effect of laughter therapy, laugh and play for an hour or two daily with a small baby/kid. You will instantly notice that for those 2hours you had completely forgotten about any worry that you had and after a few days you will notice that you feel fresh and rejuvenated after this exercise.
Even otherwise you can try this at home, with your friends and family. It gives you a healthy family time which, in this day and age is precious.
You can try connecting with old friends. Remember how you used to laugh together endlessly over silly things. Such memories always bring back joy and a smile on the face.
You can always make new friends to spend some quality social time.
You can try watching standup comedy or funny videos. No wonder stand up comedy is one of the most popular professions today!
So let us just try to loosen up, laugh a bit and create a happy us.
